Hello all! It’s Naomi! I’m so excited to sponsor this month’s blogger event: Harvest Hijinks. Each Tuesday, Better Batter and our friends in the blogosphere will be sharing a new recipe based around a harvest or Halloween theme. This week’s theme: Are You My Mummy?

We saw a really cute mummy based pig-in-a-blanket on a magazine cover at the store and decided to recreate it, using our amazing new Rainy Day Dough.

You can find the recipe Here and in our recipe archive 🙂 Happy Harvest!
You will need:

1 Package hotdogs (use a great quality dog for best results)
Better Batter Flour (for rolling out dough and for drying dogs)
1 recipe <a href=”https://betterbatter.org/rainy-day-dough” target=”_blank”>Rainy Day Dough</a>, thawed and at room temperature
Butter, or margarine, melted
coarse sugar or evaporated cane juice, for sprinkling

skewers if you’d like to stand them up… and something to stick them in (be creative! We used florist foam, but you could use anything, really)
mustard, mayo, ketchup etc for dipping (ketchup makes great ‘blood’)
&nbsp;

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Coat your hotdogs in Better Batter Flour and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.

Flour a rolling surface and roll out your Rainy Day Dough. You will want to use a lot of flour for this, as it will be sticky. You can either roll it into a 1/4 inch thick rectangle and cut 1/4 -1/8 inch thick strips from the dough using a pizza cutter, or you can ‘roll out’ the dough like playdough/play clay – each method will give a slightly different look to your ‘mummy’.

Brush the flour off of the hot dogs. The surface should be dry by now.

Roll the strips of dough around the hot dog – we find it is best if you are not too ‘neat’ about it – let the strips overlap, leaving spaces in between and particularly around the head area. press any edges together to seal the strips around the dogs. Gently transfer to the prepared baking sheet.

Brush each dog with a liberal amount of melted butter and sprinkle with a small amount of coarse sugar for visual appeal and taste contrast.

Bake for 15-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.

You may serve immediately. If desired, allow to cool 10 minutes to allow dough to firm up, insert skewers, and stick into a display stand for a ‘spooky’ cool treat for the little ones. Serve with ketchup or other dipping sauce.
