This delicious appetizer and sauce is a spiced up variation of the tried and true pigs in a blanket and was created by Naomi.  This recipe makes 8 full sized hotdogs, but we suppose that makes them Hogs in a blanket. If you really want piggies, make with cocktail weenies.

You can make this with vegan dogs and dairy free mayo and cheese if you wish. – see our recommendations.

Ingredients

1 8 pack package, all beef hotdogs (or you can use vegan, gf dogs of choice) [Want something vegan and completely allergy friendly? Try this recipe from nutritionmeetschef]

1 recipe Super Versatile Bread Dough  or World’s Easiest Crescent Rolls

1 c mayonnaise of choice  (regular or vegan)

1/4 c horseradish, grated

1 tsp paprika

4oz cheddar cheese or dairy free cheddar style cheese, finely shredded (we recommend CHAO or Daiya)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400F. Prepare bread dough and allow to rise, if using yeast dough. Skip rising step if using World’s easiest crescent rolls.

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, horseradish, paprika.  Set half the mixture aside to use as  dipping sauce. Combine remaining half of mixture and cheese or cheese style shreds.

Roll out crescent dough on floured surface into a circle about 1/8 inch thick and about 12-14 inches wide.

Spread mayonnaise/cheese combination evenly on dough, spreading out until the last 1/2 inch of dough. Cut dough into 8 even wedges.

Place a hotdog on the widest side of wedge and roll up like a crescent roll, pinching to seal the end. Repeat with remaining hotdogs.

Place on baking sheet and bake 30 minutes or until cooked completely and golden brown. Serve immediately with dipping sauce.
