Deep Fried Twinkie Clone-1

This Fairground classic, which first received US attention thanks to lots of love at the Texas State Fair, makes a ‘bad’ thing, even better. Our version of a twinkie clone, dipped into our soon-to-be-famous fry batter and deep fried briefly, for a hot, fluffy, sweet treat that can’t be beat. Plan well in advance – you’ll need to bake off our Twinkie Clone first, chill it in the freezer overnight, and have all other ingredients ready to assemble at the last minute, for best results.  To guild the lily, serve with  a dollop of whipped cream or hot raspberry jam.

1 recipe of our Twinkie clone (you can find the vegan version here), baked ,filled, and ready to fry (skewered on a skewer), frozen overnight

1 recipe of our Sweet Fry Batter, in a shallow bowl.

at least 4 c oil for frying  (this recipe works best in a deep fryer), enough for at least 3 inches deep oil, heated to 375 degrees

Make sure your Twinkie clones are well chilled (overnight freezing is best), and your oil is fully ready before assembling our Sweet Fry Batter, as the batter thickens quickly.

Heat oil to 375 degrees.

Assemble the batter as per our recipe instructions and pour into a large Solo-style cup or other narrow, tall container.

Quickly plunge your prepared Twinkie Clones into the batter and then immediately submerge in the hot oil. Cook for fourghly 3 minutes, or until batter coating is golden brown. Remove immediately and serve.
